    C2 transmission leaks

Looking for suggestions to prevent case leaks in my 63 340HP car with a T10 gear box.
The transmission was rebuilt a few years ago and works fine accept for a leaky case. The gear oil being used is 80w-90 Castrol Hypoy C that meets the API GL-5 rating and MIL-L-2105C.
I found an interesting article in the Vett restorer magazine Spring issue 2015 dealing with similar leaky problems with the later 63 cars with a Muncie transmission. Summary might suggest that the GL-4 rating might be a better choice to get rid of leaks.
I do not know anything about the Muncie to Borg Warner differences but if anyone can shed some light on the topic it would be appreciated.

    Rich,
First thing is the level as there is not a seal to prevent the oil from exiting the front. Regaurdless of what you have ben told the oil should be 1/2 " under the fill plug. Some builders say less than that. Heavy braking would also cause a leak.

      Richard,

Where is it leaking? If its the side cover, you may want to have the holes concaved out a bit inside. My T10 tranny was leaking and my tranny builder did this and it stopped the leaking. I also had a leak from the shaft hole in the front of the tranny. That may have to be machined. Finally, if it's leaking from the main shaft flange, and the flange is aluminum, it might be warped a bit. I traded out for a steel one and the leaking stopped there also.

First thing is to drop the level of fluid as indicated in earlier posts and see if that works.

      Good luck

      Jerry

The level is fine. The leak I have is the lower case between the tail shaft and the gear box case.

          Hello Jerry
The leak is between the tail shaft housing and the gear box case near the bottom center.

I'm trying to remember the T-10 and seem to think there is a bolt that go's thru your center plate between the tailshaft and the gear box. That bolt enters the main case and could leak oil. I'm not sure but think there is.
