Starter rebuild rec and source for correct appearing battery for 69

    Guys,

I had my starter restored for my 69 L-46 4spd resto and it seems to be acting up. I can't remember who restored it and I had it done like 3-4 years ago. Can you recommend a good resto shop to look it over?

Also, I'm looking for a correct appearing battery for 69 as well. Any recommendations?

    Mike

Try Jim's Battery. https://jimsbatterymfg.com/ I got one for my 69 L46 earlier this year. Probably as close are you are going to get. best to call and talk to them. customer service isn't the best. But Jim means well and will do right by you if there is a mix up.

I purchased a batter several years ago for the car but I ordered the wrong one, an R89 instead of an R79. That's not why I want a new one tho. I need a new one because I ordered this one way too early in the resto process and it sat for a few years. Now it won't take a charge or crank the engine. So I probably will just order a new one. Thanks for the info.

Anyone have a good starter restorer?

        Michael,
Where in Texas are you? A local alternator/generator/starter rebuild shop should be able to handle a rebuild with little effort. If you're in the DFW area, I've got a terrific "old school" shop that can do it for you and turn it around in a couple of days. Just be sure to tell them you want your original starter back (if it's dated to your car).

Your repro battery probably has a GEL/mat battery inside. You could cut the bottom and remove the old gel batt and replace with a new one(braille).
IF not interested in performing the operation there are many people who will so you can probably sell the dead repro and recoup part of the new batt.
