    327/300 Exhaust Manifold Washers/Bell Housing Bolts

    Hi,

    Can anyone advise what washer/washers should be under the exhaust manifold bolts on a 327/300 (1965)? I know there are flat, thick washers and perhaps lock washers as well, but I'm not sure whether they're on all bolts or only certain ones. Also, what are the proper bolts to fasten the bell housing to the block? They have integral washers, but I've seen recessed head and flat head. Which is correct?

    Thanks,

    Grant

    Grant;
    I thought I recorded the measurement. I will have to continue to look.
    I only have a picture of the ones I made.

    I will look as I believe I have extras. You are welcome to them if you don't mind stainless steel.
    The originals are steel of course.

      The thick washers were under all manifold bolts except the 2 long bolts on each side at the center position. They are installed against the manifold regardless of whether french locks or RF shield brackets are also installed.

      On the bellhousing bolts, I've never seen anything but non-trimmed ("indented"), flanged head bolts used. However, it's very possible that trimmed ("non-indented") head were also used.

        Joe,

        Thanks, and just to clarify: do any/all of the manifold bolts have lock washers? And, in your comment about the thick washers being "installed against the manifold regardless of whether french locks or RF shield brackets are also installed", do I take that to mean: manifold surface/flat washer/ then, french lock and/or RF shield bracket, meaning that the lock or shield bracket would be sitting on the flat washer? And if lock washers are also used, where do they fit in the order?

        Thanks again for your patience and help!

          Rick,

          Thanks very much. I have stainless washers (driver car), but they only came in a pack of eight, so I wasn't sure whether I needed more or which bolts they went on. Thanks too, for your offer of spares...

            No lock washers were used for any manifold bolt. For the end runner positions, french locks serve the locking purpose. For the center runner position, no locking features were used.

            Manifold surface, then flat washer, then whatever else.

              A pack of eight is exactly the number needed-----there are 4 end runner positions requiring 2 washers for each position (one on each end runner bolt). So, eight total is what's needed.
