Anytime I have used this feature the OCR process was automatically done, as you suggested, but reviewing the errors and words that the conversion wasn't sure of, followed by proof reading was manual.

      Thanks for the info Dennis.

So just to understand, when you say automatically done, is that at "scan" time, or after the pdf is created and then one has to run that "editor" s/w?

        Re: 1938 to 1966 P & A Catalog and Special Information Catalog

I have standalone Acrobat X Standard, not Acrobat Pro. I have a choice of opening a pdf file and making the text searchable, or converting different file formats to searchable pdf. What I can not do is scan and create pdf from Acrobat Standard and I don't know if Pro can do that.

I have an all in one printer/scanner from HP and that software allows you to scan, do OCR, and save a file in rtf format, but not pdf. A normal scan (without searchable text) can be saved directly to pdf.

For me, it would be a two step process, scan to pdf, open in Acrobat X Standard and run OCR and resave.

I have to admit, I don't know for sure if commercial equipment would be different, but I tend to believe the clerk.

          Dennis,

AFAIK all Adobe software has to have a "Saved" PDF file before OCR can be done.

            Gary,

Yes, you need to save the document before OCR, that's a normal step in the process.

            Rich,

It looks like newer version of Acrobat Pro can scan, if there is a Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) driver installed in the system. I tried using WIA previously for a different operation but never was able to get it to work.

My version of Acrobat X Standard is not capable of directly scanning.

Thanks for all of the info. I've been tied up with other essentials and will follow up as soon as possible.

I got this catalog in the 70s @ the Pomona Swap Meet.
Knowing that publications like this were not expected to last forever I took it to a binary and had it bound in a hard cover.
The catalog was and is in very good condition, every page is pristine.
The prices are amazing, if we only knew!

Gary that's in fine shape. I have one exactly like it but it's pretty tattered and binding split in several places.

Yes it's funny looking at those 1959 prices today. But back then they were expensive. If we only knew then what we know now.

While we’re on the topic of parts catalogs. I’m interested in tracking the Corvette fuel filters in Group 3.890.
Specifically what was the first year that the GF 124 filter is listed as the service replacement for the AC 109A.

Gary I'd think Joe Lucia and others may know that one. May be best to Title it up and start a new thread with the query.

PS I'll check this 38-66 book when I get a chance JIC it has some info too.

Gary, For fun I went to http://www.gmpartswiki.com/query

and found some hits.. Try it...

Type AC-109 A in the search window (note space after the 9)
                          Found Chev# is 854273 HERE
Says.... NOS AC Glass Fuel Bowl Filter Type 109a Element GM Chevrolet Corvette 854273

It'll find 100's of hits but look at the "AC 109 A" in the first hit page, a 1957 P&A book.

Also try GF-124 in the search window.... You'll get many pages. There may be a supersession page in there somewhere.
Found Chev# is 854347 in one of the pages.

In the browser window you can search with Ctrl F and it'll find your string in the browser page when there are many hits. Sometimes the hits will be partial characters from the search string.

But I bet Joe or someone will find something.
