    Aluminum Valve Cover Repair

I have a valve cover from a 70 LT1 and it has a crack around one of the holes that the bolt goes through to hold the cover down. The piece is still attached, but a portion is cracked all the way through.

Does anyone know if there is someone out there that does repairs on these aluminum covers? I can get a reproduction set, but I would like to keep the originals.

Also, can anyone suggest the best way to freshen and clean these up a bit? What products and procedures work best to get them looking new?

    Thanks in Advance

    Jim

I've never done it, but your question reminded me of this thread I found a few years ago:

When cleaning, be mindful of what finish you want. Here's a discussion:
This subject has probably been discussed but I can't find it so bear with me. Do all the aluminum valve covers from year to year have the same finish on them? I've seen 69's 70's and 71's with what appears to be both polished and dull finishes. I bought a set of 71 covers and really can't tell...

You might want to check with John DeGregory. He's great with valve covers.

Thanks Joe but my refinishing is not correct for LT1 valve covers. Much appreciated. John
