    1954 starter tag replacement

Does the starter need to be dis assembled to replace the tag or can I just drill out the rivets hopefully with no shavings get inside. Thanks folks!

I've removed rivets from starters and generators without drilling out them. I use a dull wood chisel to gently pry the head of the rivet out of the housing. mike

Thanks Mike, I haven't done this one before so I just wanted to be sure. Sounds simple I know but considering how long it has taken me to put this thing back together I've come to realize not to take anything simple for granted with these old girls any more.

I gently tap the wood chisel to get it between the Delco tagged the housing then pry the rivet out of housing along with the tag. good luck Guy. mike
