    C1 Water pump Flange

I have a 56 265 that have discovered the flange on the water pump is too far out, 5 3/4 inches and should be 5 9/16. what would the procedure be to press the flange further on? do I have to partially disassemble pump or can I press it further on assembled?

    Thanks
    Sheldon

The proper way to do it is to remove the backing plate, support the shaft on the rear side and press the hub (flange) on the required amount. It is not very difficult to remove and re-install the back plate but you may have to replace the gasket.

Word of caution though... If you go too far you'll need to then press on the top of the shaft while supporting the flange/hub in it's entire circumference using a properly sized split-bearing support tool made for a press. I've used a 3-jaw puller before but not the ideal tool.

Here's a link to a post with more info if it helps. It's for a Big Block pump but the principle is the same. Note it may take a bit of time to load as it's inside a large thread with many photos.
