Have any of you replaced your GM A6 compressor with the currently available replacement? Can't think of the brand just now - it starts with "A" and has metric threads? Interested in how they compare visually and if any of you have done a side by side visual comparison. Looking for advice and experience in doing this - is it easily seen? Any images of one next to the original, and is the clutch interchangeable? Thanks in advance for any information you care to provide.

John, I replaced mine with a Pro6Ten unit. It is lighter & more efficient than the stock compressor, so far it has performed great on my '65. It is supposed to be a direct bolt on replacement but I found one minor problem - you had to remove the heater hose bracket below the clutch. As you can see in the picture I have placed the stock labels on it so it looks OK to the casual observer. Anyone with any knowledge can spot it immediately. Good luck, Don H.Attached Files- Top

Trust me..............they are externally identical except for the metric treads and dated rear cover.
Company is ALMA. Brand name is APCO (Alma Products Company).
CF has some pics for you if you go there and search.

Re: Replacing Frigidaire A. C. compressor with aluminum replacement?
Question about insulating the AC return pipe coming out of firewall , going to POA or earlier type valve. Is the pipe supposed to be wrapped in its full length with the black insulating material or just cover the capillary tube where it contacts the pipe? Some say completely but tech guy at Old Air Products says first few inches coming out of firewall should be bare so it can "sweat." How was it done at the factory originally?
Thanks- Top
