    64 early hood

64 early hood, when did the 63 hood block mountings disappear from the 64 hood?

    63 hood pn 3833239
    64 hood pn 3853527
So the hood for 64 was a completely new pn from 63 In 63 the number of spacers used went from 0, 2, 4, 0 As usual 63 was full of changes!
Since 64 became a new part number would be surprised if any holes for mounting blocks existed on any 64 hoods. If left over 63 hoods did exist at the end of production would expect they were saved in inventory for NOS as opposed to filling the recess to make it a 64 hood.
    But let the experts speak.

I am aware of '64 #300 that had a '63 hood base with all 8 hood wedge mounting holes filled.

I had Serial number 207 and it had the holes for the mounting filled in. Then I bought another hood that had the holes filled in and I just saw one here at Carlisle for sale so I was wondering if anybody knew what serial number they stop that.

I don't think you're going to find a "stopping point", if only for the fact that St Louis was NOT a FIFO assembly plant. As a WAG, I'd be surprised if you found any beyond VIN 500......

Sounds like the base piece was used - was top used and just filled in? Using the base piece over makes sense,
forgot it was two pieces, still learning.

'64 #300 had no indication that it was anything but a new top skin.

There were no 64 Corvettes that used the 63 hood and had the indention filled in by the factory! The backing piece could have been used and the holes for the wedges filled in for early 64's.

I have seen 1963 undersides of hoods, used on 1964 cars, used past the 63--, number.

Mike, the question there would be whether or not they were installed at St Louis or by Bubba, the "I can fix that." guy.

First I've heard of this, I know very late 63s got a 64 instrument cluster requiring a funky bezel to make them look right in the cars, but never heard of any cross-pollination with hood pieces. I'll have to reread Noland Adams C2 book and see if it says anything about it...

Loren, I know for a fact that my 64 #2405 has such a hood underside, and the car had original paint with a NO hit entire body, and not many owners.

I've seen an original early 64 hood with the 63 support panel. Don't know it's production time. My late 64 does not have it.

Is there any chance that the 2012 (or later) JM reflects ANY of what is stated above?
