Straightening an antenna for a '69?

    Hi all,

I have a nice original antenna (fixed mast) from my '69 convertible, but it has a very slight bend about 8 inches down from the top. Does anyone have any recommendations for straightening it? I was going to try some heat and maybe putting it in a vice, but I am wondering if anyone has ever successfully straightened one of these and has any advice...

    Thanks,
    Paul

Slight bend... is it bowed - the tip is still pointing in approx the correct direction or bent where the tip is pointed askew 15-20 degrees?
Unbowing is much easier than fixing a place where you can see the antenna change of direction.

I would try laying it between two, straight lengths of wood and use several wide Stanley clamps to pull the "sandwich" together and see what happens; I certainly wouldn't start heating it up as a first option... a vice might not have long enough jaws but could work if padded nicely.

The trick is getting the bend positioned correctly for the most benefit. Perhaps use some 3M blue tape to hold it in place.

Paul I have straightened a few masts just by holding at the lower part of bend and use other hand to straighten .the antenna rod is pretty durable.if the bend is at lower end of antenna it may require more than your hands.2
