    1970 clutch fork

Can you tell visually the difference between a 58 clutch fork and a 70 clutch fork while in the cars? After finishing up my 70 I can hardly push the clutch in. Original clutch linkage except rod from cross shaft to fork. Used a standard clutch, not heavy duty in the 70, Delco brand. It is an LS5 with M20. Thought I might have put the cross shaft in backwards but it looks correct by the assembly manual and judging guide. I used a clutch fork that came with the car in boxes of parts with the 70, used original. Am sure hoping I can figure this out without pulling the transmission back out. Any thoughts appreciated.

Unfortunately, it's somewhat difficult to tell them apart. However, note that the 58 fork has a much thinner center section than the 1966-81 fork. Your car was originally equipped with fork GM #3887177. The 1958 fork was GM #3739043.

    They are pictured below:

      Thanks Joe
With your pictures I should be able to see if mine is correct if I take the boot off.

        Re: 1970 clutch fork

See this post with reference photos of the clevis rod pin end of both configurations.

The C1 fork has a nearly 90* angle to the overall long part of the arm. Another photo of the C1 here...

The C2 fork has a much greater clevis pin end angle with respect to the arm.

Ahhhh, also just found this thread with excellent photo comparisons.

Thanks for these photo references. With these and Joe's pics it should be easy to determine if I used the right fork in my 70, especially with the boot off. If it is right I will have to figure out what else is causing the linkage to feel like it is binding.
