Questions on dash harness, '65 L79 A/C coupe

I have 4 questions and have looked at the wiring schematic until my eyes are bleeding. (this makes me remember why I quit doing dash harnesses about 25 yrs ago)

    1. Where does the light socket in the picture go?

    2. There is a plug in the part of the harness going to the R side of dash. It has 3 wires, orange/black, Lt blue/black and yellow/black. Can't find any such combination on the schematic or anything to plug it to.

    3. I can't remember where to plug a light to illuminate the heater control bezels. I have the dash out of 2 of my '63's and still can't figure it out. I'm 'sposed to know this, but have gone brain dead in my old age I guess.

    4. Black/red wire going to right side of dash. It has a spade on the end that looks like it should get a plastic cover. It was taped on old harness.

just note the main dash harness for the heater plug is not used and taped off. so the separate AC harness is used. its all shown in RPO C60.

      Hi Norris,
One possibility for the light socket . There is a light socket that plugs into the back of the ignition switch. Its on upper part of the switch rear housing and will probably have to remove the front bezel and lower the switch to install. I also agree with Keith on the heater plug wiring.

Thanks for the help guys. Pretty sure the single wire with the spade goes to the glove box light. Out of sight out of mind since it wasn't in the car. The heater plug makes sense too, especially when I got the engine harness lead fed back through the cowl and saw the wires going to the A/C type heater box. So I guess now I'm down to trying to illuminate the heater/air controls in the dash. Lectric Ltd shows a separate harness for this with two of the metal type light sockets but I don't have a clue where the'd plug in, and I can't tell that this car ever had such a harness, although I didn't do the disassembly.

yes that is correct. it plugs into the fuse box. Do you have the AIM? without one you are making this very difficult on your self

With regard to the AC pigtail. Power comes from the bottom of the fuse block spade connection marked acc. The bulbs ground to the clock case and are directional. There is a left and right denoted by the slits in the green tipped bulb carrier. Get them reversed and you lose a lot of illumination.

Nice photos in John's pdf (part 2) shows where it lands.

PS Re that glove box lamp "special" terminal. I suggest that you cut the wire a foot back and add male and female spade or bullet terminals. This allows easier installation and removal of the glovebox without having to take the lamp socket apart. That original design is a pain. You simply pull the installed terminals apart. But remember it's always powered so be careful.

If Frank Dreano checks in he'll likely post some nice photos of what I'm talking about or a link to a thread.

norris, when you say "metal type sockets" are you referring to the type some times referred to as "torpedoes" with the little green filters on the ends?
