Need to replace my 270 ignition coil on a 69 sb with standard ignition

    Guys,

I need a Delco 270 coil for my 69 sb standard ignition but it looks like all the vendors have discontinued these. Does anyone have a source for these or can someone suggest a replacement? Need to get as close to the 270 as possible in appearance for judging purposes. Thanks for your help.

I would check the Driveline parts ads........particularly David S in California.

But if you still can't find one, try this: http://www.2040-parts.com/1968-thru1...5270-i1791371/

Thanks Larry. I have secured a 270 coil for judging purposes, but I would like to use a new non-correct coil to start the car for tuning purposes while I await delivery of my 270 coil. Which one should I use? I don't want to fry the points in the distributor but I want to get the strongest coil I can to help with boosting the spark as much as I safely can. Should I just go to the parts store and order one? Any suggestions?

        Michael,
Your local NAPA parts house should be able to hook you right up.

Thanks Leif. I'll swing by and pick one up. Would you not recommend going with something like an MSD coil, or will that fry my points?

            Mike,
Completely unnecessary...the NAPA Echlin is more than up to the job.

That NAPA IC12 is a great coil and I've used many. I even ran one in a 67 L71 for months until I was able to locate a NOS Delco 207 TI service replacement. Went through 2 reproduction 263's and lessons learned. Internal shorts when hot and IR gun proved they got so hot you could fry eggs on them. I have those 263's on display in my "Reproduction Parts That I Hate" glass cabinet as a reminder, right next to repro Temperature Senders, repro Headlight Switches, repro Fuel Gauges, repro 257 Flasher Bulbs, repro VAC units(the ones with the right GM numbers but WAY out of spec), repro Asian Chrome, etc, etc. Sorry about the over caffeinated ranting...

The only issue with the IC12 is it is just a tad larger in diameter than originals so the coil bracket holder may need a little t w e a k i n g.
