    63 front parking brake cable

Trying to replace the split window front parking brake cable. I have the bottom end ball loose from the equalizer lever and that same end free of the riveted in clamp and the cable clamp on the steering box. "U" firewall clip is off and the pin is out of the handle on the interior side (all according to the shop manual). The way I read it I should be able to withdraw the upper portion of the cable from the engine side of the firewall to completely remove it.

I can't. It moves back and forth about 1/2" and stops hard without coming out.

I loosened the parking brake handle bracket bolts from under the dash and still no joy..

Am I missing something...e.g. another interior clip. Such as Item #17 in the AIM pic ? Its not mentioned in the shop removal procedure.
And if so, how do I get to it - I was trying to avoid removing the handle and light warning switch and capacitor...

    Frank,

Yes there is a inner retainer and according to my memory it's like a flat metal part, be careful you do not tear the insulation when you remove the cable assembly. The cable needs to be removed from inside the car, there is also a rubber washer that goes over the cable to seal the hole, part # 19 in the picture.

Thanks - I've ordered the new rubber seal and I found that inner clip and got the cable out from the engine side...
