What year corvettes did point shield covers come from the factory? My research finds 1970-74, is that correct.

Michael------
Yes, 1970-74 is correct with it starting later in 1970 as Terry has noted. However, and unknown to a lot of folks, the shields were also added to SERVICE distributors for earlier applications beginning in about 1971.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe, thank you. I think we were all waiting for your response. Can I assume the shields were also used on Camaros, Chevelles, and Novas.- Top

Re: GM #1846216 Point Shield Covers
That's interesting. I've worked on a lot of '70-'74 GM cars but never saw on with a shield.
What is its purpose?Mark Edmondson

Radio interference suppression. One reason why a lot of GM vehicles with these shields have been "shorn" of them over the years: GM instructed that when the Uniset point sets (assembly of points + condenser) were used, the shield was to be removed. Apparently, the Uniset points have some sort of inherent RF suppression which obviates the need for the shields. In fact, I'm not sure that the shields can even be installed after Unisets are installed. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
