The manual says that From about 1970 SN 12,800 through all of 1972 production the distributor shield is one piece. So it looks like prior to SN 12,800 the box shield was used and from what you are saying all 4 plug wire shields would have been used too.

That is kind of the range I thought. If your car were closer to that I would say it could go either way, but you are 2000 past that number. I would rate the box distributor shield with all four spark plug shields as unlikely in your case. Of course it would be nice to have some other examples built close to yours.

Here is a photo of well documented 1970 LT1 s/n 14544 with the small distributor shield and two spark plug ignition shields only at the rear. That is about 1000 cars before yours. The number in the TIM&JG is the earliest small shields we have documented and that is another thousand before this one. If you were to present your car for judging with the larger shielding I would expect a deduction.

Working on the engine with the smaller shielding is far easier. Be glad for that.
