72 Rear muffler hanger and muffler question

Was the rear muffler and hanger blacked out together? Or has the blackout changed to no black out, not sure since I have not got the latest JM. Thanks Ed

No blackout on the hanger, if that's what you are asking.
    Only on the muffler.

I just usually see them blacked out and sometimes the outer portion of the spare tire carrier may get hit. Not really sure if over the counter first design mufflers we’re blacked out in the same manner as assembly line, but I have a set of New Old stock mufflers or should I say just knew as they were never in stock that I can send you pictures of displaying the way they are blacked out. If interested send me a message or reach out.

The 1969 2" SERVICE mufflers were definitely pre-painted black on the bottom and side surfaces. I don't think the 2-1/2" were ever pre-painted, though. I have many NOS examples of the 1965-72 2-1/2" SERVICE mufflers (dual bracket style) [none for sale] and none are painted. I also have NOS sets of the 64-67 2" mufflers [none for sale] and none are pre-painted.

I have purchased several new 2.5 inch mufflers over the counter thru the years and some were blacked out and some were not. However, I am in possession of two new old stock 2.5 inch muffler’s in the GM boxes, part number 3943385/3943386 and they are definitely blacked out. If you like I would be happy to send you pictures. - Ron

I believe you. Apparently, some were blacked out. All that I have seen so far, which includes many more than the ones I have, were not. My examples of the 3943385 and 3943386 are among those that were not blacked out.
