Advice on adding a fuse to my cigarette lighter

    Guys,

I've been reading assorted posts about adding the fuse to my cigarette lighter line. I'll be adding the appropriate gauge wire and fuse but I was wondering where the best place to place it is? I would like for it to be hidden from prying eyes, but I want it reasonable accessible to replace when needed. Any suggestions?

    Under ash tray??

Unfortunately that will only fuse the lighter receptical it self, and not the wire going to the lighter. It would be better to fuse nearer the fuse panel so that the wire going to the lighter will also be protected.

Thanks Terry. I hadn't thought about under the ash tray, but as you point out that does leave most of the wire unprotected. I'll see if there is an easy place to access the wire closer to the fuse box that is also hidden so that I can protect the wire. If not, I'll go under the ash tray.

What year are we talking about? The cigarette lighter for 70-73 is fused, and that's probably the case with newer cars too.

So are we saying a fuse protected circuit for the lighter was introduced in 1970?

According to John Hinckley, cigarette lighters were fused starting in 1967

                Michael,

It looks like you're good to go... the lighter circuit in your '69 is already fused.
