I'm restoring the steering column in my early '69. It is the standard column. According to the TIM&JG, the columns were painted interior color after assembly so the upper section is simple. But since my car has suffered an interior color change, I can't use it as a reference point. When judging '68's and '69's I never really paid attention to the paint on the lower column but I don't remember seeing any/much interior color under there.
Perhaps the columns were sent to St. Louis painted in a standard color (for example; black), then the upper area was painted to match the interior, leaving only light over spray on the lower column area?
Thanx
