The interlock lever at the bottom of my steering column is requiring more force to be pushed up into the reverse position than the cable can handle. It looks like the steering column has never been serviced and there is a lot of corrosion and 50 year old gummed up gook. I decided to rebuild the steering column to get the interlock lever working properly. Everything has gone fine up to the point I need to remove the interlock bowl at the top of the column just aft of the key-cylinder & turn-signal housing. i.e. the collar that rotates when the transmission interlock cable moves the lever at the bottom of the column. I'm not sure how to remove the bowl from the rotating shift tube. The '69 service manual does not address removal of the bowl. It appears to be a press-on fit but I want to be sure before proceeding. I need to get the shift tube out of the column to clean out all that gook.
Thanx
