Question on the fiberglass radiator shroud extension

    Guys,

I'm installing my shroud on my 69 L-46 4spd non-AC car with copper radiator and fiberglass shroud. I'm replacing the hardware for the lower shroud extension. The AIM and the TIMJG is not entirely clear to me as to which of the three bolts goes from the inside and which goes from the outside. Looking at my shroud it appears to me that the bolts on the side, at 3:00 and 9:00, go from inside the shroud to the outside, and the one on the bottom goes from outside in, towards the fan. that means the T-nuts that are used to affix the extension on the sides are attached to the outside of the upper shroud, and the bottom t-nut is affixed to the inside of the shroud extension. Is this correct?

        Terry,

I noticed that the replacement T-nuts I ordered from Paragon have four prongs as opposed to the three on the original hardware. Do you know if anyone sells the correct three prong nuts?

I don't know, but I would check woodworking supply sources. T-nuts are commonly used in woodworking and there might ba a source of three-prong nuts there.

Thanks Terry. I got them through bolt depot.

Final question on the radiator shroud. I've looked through the AIM and the TIMJG but just can't quite figure out how the radiator seals are supposed to be placed on the core support. It looks from the pic in the JG that there is a long flat seal that then has a shorter fatter seal stacked on top of it. I've seen other pics where it looks like there are three fat seals that are placed on top of the core support with the middle one being a little more forward because of the shroud attachment bracket. Can you shed some light on this? Thanks for your help.

When studying the placement of the seals on the core support one needs to separate the year of the car and the hood style. Standard small block hoods got different seals than BB hoods with the "power bulge," because the area to be sealed is different for the different hoods.

Your application is shown on Page 187 of the 5th Edition of the 1968-69 TIM&JG. Figure Ch 1.1.

Thanks Terry. That picture appears to show a single thick short dam in the middle of the support. Does it matter that my car is a Sept 69 build? Most of the late 69 changes have been on my car. I'm asking because I've ordered the various radiator seals multiple times from different vendors to try and get some insight into how they should go. I've attached the pic you mentioned as well as pics of two of the vendors packages for core support air dam, one from Doc Rebuild and one from Paragon. They both seam to indicate that the 350L configuration is for three pieces. Promise this is the last question! Thanks for your assistance as always.

You have exceeded the extent of my knowledge. As I said earlier, I would have expected the three piece seal for the hood with the power bulge, but the TIM&JG shows something else. Maybe someone with a fairly original car in your configuration and built close to yours can provide clarity.

My 1969 has the 3 piece seal exactly ass shown in Dr. Rebuild's catalog. However, my 1969 was a 300 HP with aluminum radiator. It used a somewhat different support and completely different shroud than L1969 L-46 with copper brass radiator. I don't know if the seal configuration was the same. It's possible it was but I don't know that for sure.
