Fuel Tank Sock(On the pickup in the tank) C2 Corvette

If the above sock is collapsed;kinked or just needs to be taken off or repositioned can this
be done w/o taking the tank down? I understand that the pickup and sock can be seen from
the fuel fill neck. Please advise. Thanks in advance>Larry P.S. The sock is just pushed on the
    pickup tube; correct?

Try to siphon as much gas out as possible. You could jack the car up to one side to try and get as much out as you can before drawing the tank.

Anybody else to answer my particular questions? Car is at a vendor now and needs to be moved to another place to work on.
Just want a simple way of getting it to run and move. Anybody try that compressed air idea?? Larry

Thanks for the response but you guys ARE NOT READING MY QUESTIONS. THE CAR CAN NOT BE WORKED ON WHERE IT IS SITTING
NOW FOR VARIOUS REASONS. WE GOT TO MOVE IT TO ANOTHER BUILDING. In baseball terms you guys are wonderful 3rd base
coaches; I more concerned about getting to 1st base 1st. Anybody?? Thanks to all>>Larry

Someone with a skinny arm may be able to reach into the fuel opening and just pull the sock off. I've seen it done with a 68 convertible. A coupe would be more difficult

OK - the fact you don't like the answers doesn't make them irrelevant. How far are you going ?

That sock (if that's really the problem) isn't going to fix itself,; if its damaged or deteriorated, you are setting yourself up to get 1/2 way to your destination and have the problem reoccur (only worse) and then you've got add'l problems... Based on your other thread, it doesn't appear you're 100% certain that the sock is even the problem...

i will tell you this - my Dad traded in a 1929 Dodge decades ago and we needed to move it a mile or so to our shop....the gas tank was completely shot. We rigged up a 2 gallon fuel container secured to the running board with a rubber hose to the fuel pump to get the car where it needed to go.

Dangerous, and I'm not recommending it, but its been done before...

A flatbed tow truck will work just fine to the next location.

Reach in with a coat hanger and rip the sock off or reach in with a sharpened piece of 1/8 theaded rod and poke a few holes in the sock. Or you could flat tow it with another car just communicate with cell phones.

I have blown the sock off of a tank with compressed air. It was a long time ago and it was a 75 convertible, but it was plugged enough it would not allow full flow to the pump, we blew the sock off. added an inline filter under the tank and drove that car a lot of miles.

The strainer is a light press fit in the pick-up tube and is rather easily removed and installed. It was GM #5651702 but it's discontinued. It's available in the aftermarket, though.

Mission Accomplished>The culprit was the fuel pump. Who would think a NOS #6415616 would not work? We put another one
on that we knew worked and fired the engine(L75) up. Want to thank everyone who responded. Got to know a lot more about
the "sock" in the tank; may have to cross that bridge in future. Hope to get this buggy judged next year. Thanks again>Larry
