Has anyone thought of the idea of posting the pictures from the judging manuals on here? Why would that not work?

Here they are. What are claimed to be "P01" on the top and "P02" on the bottom.

          Re: Elusive P01 Wheel covers

OK, just asking questions. I see a distinct difference in the "cap" or center ornament between P01 and P02 covers. As Jimmy stated, both covers shown by Wes are NOT passenger car (at least not 70-72 that I am familiar with). I was not aware of this style cover on earlier passenger cars. My question is, were there actually 2 covers (the large part that covers the majority of the wheel) or were there just various center emblems? The reason I ask is, the P02 center cap looks wider and larger as if it could be covering the pointed ends of the fins on the wheel cover. The passenger covers I am familiar with look like a Corvette cover without a center cap and with a larger crossed flags decal covering the center area where the caps would bolt on. I can't for the life of me remember if the fins were pointed or not. It seems odd that GM would catalog 2 covers so similar in appearance, but if there are differences in the valve stem holes they must have. Or maybe they were forced to change venders. Also odd that covers so visibly different would carry the same part #s as Joe stated. Maybe I ask too many questions, but would sure like to know some answers if anyone has them. Thanks in advance, Chip.

              Re: Elusive P01 Wheel covers

Several thoughts. The comparison photos that Joe posted are what I believe are the correct RPO designations. The original photo, posted by Wes, I believe is of a passenger car wheel cover. That being said, the fins are pointed and the diameter is 15 inches, so by changing the center cap to a 3923631, you have yourself a P01. The only problem is I don't believe the cap is removable on that style of cover.
I believe the 3923631 cap was used on both P01 and P02. They were all the same diameter. They look different sizes because the diameter of the flat at the ends of the fins is different.
I don't even want to get into the layout of the black and white squares on the checkerd flag. (:

This is the easiest way to spot a PO-1 hubcap that I have found. If the fin going into the hub is pointed, it is a PO-1. If the fin is squared off at the end, it is a PO-2.

                  Below is a PO-1:

I have a friend that just purchased a 68 with the wire covers. The center cap is flat with a somewhat larger crossed flags . What are those caps? Thanks Curt

The ornaments with the crossed flag and flat cap are GM #3972794. These were used with the 1970-72 Monte Carlo wheel covers GM #3963405.
