Standard Deduction Guideline #2 covers Batteries. Current-day OEM (DELCO) correctly sized replacement with appropriate top and side post configuration would receive a 50% deduction for Originality. In the case of your 1962, this would be 12-13 points. (Out of 4500 total possible points) Note: percentage Originality deductions of 0%, 10%, and 30% are also possible given "correctness" of battery restoration.

Only you can assess value of restoration battery "correctness" vs the cost of an OEM replacement battery - given a possible gain of 12-13 points.

            Dave and Bruce-----

Personally, I would not even consider using a reproduction battery for a driven car, even if it's only driven a little. For me, a new AC Delco battery is the only way to go. If I had a "trailer queen" type car, MAYBE I'd consider a reproduction battery.

I agree with Joe, it's Walmart for me then take the stickers off.

Years ago I installed one of those tar tops in my 63 and it lasted two or three years. The only good thing is that from my reading it appears the case was a original from the time period. I wish I knew how to overhaul them but it's not really that important, I did keep the core though.
