Re: What are these broken plastic pieces inside the steering column? 1970 tilt & tel
I refinished the steering column (first photo; the reason I removed the steering wheel, lock lever and column extension in the first place). Now I'm ready to pull the hub so I can replace the plastic spring retainer that was in pieces inside the column.
My newbie question: What's the best way to remove the nut that's on top of the hub (second photo)? Should I break it free with the column locked? Or position the wheels to the left stop to avoid stress on the column? Is it better to shock it loose with an impact? It should only be 30 ft-lbs tight so maybe it doesn't matter much, but I want to avoid any further damage.
The service manual only says "Remove nut from shaft..." so it may be just that simple.
Thanks guys!
