As a follow up on a recent thread regarding the 58-60 Judging manual and correcting errors:
I have never been in favor of spiral bound Judging Manuals for the simple reason pages with incorrect or incomplete information cannot be easily removed and new information added and/or updated. By using a spiral bound manual updating is not only costly but very "slooow" and inefficient. The former paper binder Dealer Master parts catalog system whereby pages could be easily removed and a revised page inserted was a good example of keeping information up to date.
The 6th edition of the 56-57 judging manual printed January 2015 for the most part is a good example of well researched information locked into a spiral manual that I believe needs an upgrade but does not require a complete makeover. Case in point: Page 103 shows 4 photographs of various water outlet housings, the bottom 2 photos of the aluminum version indicates it is PN 3837233 forget for the moment that I disagree with the JM's explanation when it was first used in production assembly. What caught my attention was the part number 3837233 used in the photos and description. The photos are nice, unfortunately the captioned PN 3837233 is incorrect. There are numerous other areas with similar inaccuracies (bolt chart) as well as subject matter not covered. With a few exceptions, all of these are not major issues and can be easily corrected with simple revised page inserts that would bring the judging manual up to 2020 standards. With computers now dominating everything, revised pages could even be sent over the internet. Imagine that! If worried about lost revenue from the sale of $50 manuals, a small charge for the revised pages after the manuals initial sale should be just compensation.
If interested, part #3837233 can be found in Grp.1.516. It is described as the small 7 3/4 OL tube inside the 8 cyl. 2nd design engine.
