It's been a while since working on a Carb. Could someone who has a 72 base engine with a 4spd and Carter7042203 provide a pic of the right side of the Carb as it sits on the intake manifold. Also more specifically, what is the name of the part and if someone knows the part# and or Group# that does the 3rd gear RPM retard, it would be a tremdous help! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!! Stay Safe!!

Re: 72 Carter QuadraHog Carb
Patrick has some very nice detailed pictures of the carb and the tcs solenoid in his album. But just to be clear the vacuum advance lockout on 72 is
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and only works in 4th gear on a 4 speed. The Q jet carb is one on the best designed carbs ever made.

Re: 72 Carter QuadraHog Carb
Big Thanks to Patrick for all of the pics!! Extremely helpful!!
My apologies to anyone regarding Qjet carbs. Since my preteen years, which sadly has been many years ago, my understanding of the Qjets has always been that they were extremely reliable, but it came with a price of not the most efficient for gas mileage, hence the nickname I've heard all these year. Ed's perception seems to capture the love for the Carb that it's had many demands on many different needs and has had exceptional reliability in all of them.
To Ed. I too am the original owner of mine. We're coming up on 50yrs ownership. Mine was "born" the first week of November in 71 and was "adopted the first week of 1972 in Pensacola Fla., it spent first 1-1/2yrs and was the only time it wasn't garaged. Next almost 5 years in Orange Co. Calif., garaged the whole time and the rest of its 48-1/2yrs in the greater Seattle area always garaged. Never been hurt or altered in any way. Has earned multiple Top Flight Awards.
The two daughters it brought home from the hospital at birth both want it when I'm gone. Haven't approached that issue yet, thinking I may have to have them "interview" for the opportunity to see if they understand what it takes to keep it original and out of the hands of amatuers. LOL Stay Safe ALL- Top

Re: 72 Carter QuadraHog Carb
Norm,
It nice to see an other original owner with the passion to preserve its originality. Your car has had much more travel than mine. I purchased my 72 in June 1972 from Walace Chev in Linden NJ and now resides in North Brunswick NJ, which is only 20 miles apart. My daughter also came home from the hospital, when she was born, in my 72 . That was well before infant car seats.
As for the bad reputation for the Q jet, was mainly for the lack of knowledge of it operation and poor tuning. It also had the nick name as Quadra Bog. The bogging was caused by the maladjustment of the air value. The Q jet is capable of very good fuel economy and as good as any 4 barrel, due to its spread bore design. Many causes of poor fuel economy, but if adjusted and tuned properly and all other components in good tune, it will give as good as any carb.
