    72 LT1 renovation question

Were anti rattle hood bumpers OEM installed on 1972 LT1's ? I have a colleague with a 72 LT1 (very close production #) that has 4 hood bumpers. I have also seen other 72 LT 1 cars with none. Please advise.

    Fred,

Of all the LT-1's that I have seen, I never observed any of them with anti rattle rubber bumpers under the hood.

Those are later 70's pieces. Easy to glue on, but not factory original.

Fred, my very original 1972 LT-1 with AC, Duntov award, does not have any hood bumpers installed on the inside fender rails.

Hi Ron, thanks for your input. A little history the photo of the hood bumpers is on a friend of mine's matching # LT1 convertible w/ac. He bought is from the original owner. It appears to be a unmolested survivor. From all observation the car is virtually untouched original. Perhaps the original owner added the hood bumpers for some reason......

Maybe added at some point to reduce hood flutter or make the hood alignment more flush?

                  Fred,
The first reference I find for the bumper to which you refer is the '74 AIM. There is no reference to in it in '73 and earlier AIM's. As you can see from the photo below, item #7 is clarified in note "Z" which states that it is used for alignment of hood and fender in order to achieve a flush hood to fender alignment.
