    65-82 Brake Caliper Rebuild Recommendations

I am looking for guidance from members who have had experience with brake caliper rebuild companies with recommendations.

My first issue is I sent my original to the car 66 calipers to Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes 10 weeks ago. Two weeks ago (June 19, 2020) I called and was told they were so backed up they could not even give me a guess on when they could get them done. As it would be an additional three weeks shipping to have them ship the calipers back, then ship them to someone else, then have the someone else ship them back to me when completed, not including repair time, I waited until the following week to call again. Now the phone is disconnected and their web sight says "Under Construction" (offline).

I am in Ventura, CA and CSSB is in the Miami, FL area. I was hoping that as this company has been around a while that perhaps they were going offline to get caught up but I'm left completely in the dark now. Are there any local to Miami FL members who could check in and provide any feedback? As I write this I realize I don't have the specific address as it is at my office. They recently moved and I shipped my calipers to the new address. I can update this post when I have that address.

Something very strange and worrisome is going on here. The CSSB web-site has been down for some time now. That was no big deal since there are many reasons for that to occur in the normal course of business.

However, to hear that they are so "backed up" that they have not been able to get at your calipers in 10+ weeks with no estimate of when they will is very disturbing. And, the fact that their phone is now disconnected with, apparently, no new number is VERY troubling.

I also think it would be a good idea for someone who lives in the area to go check on them. Certainly, there must be some members that are active on this board that live in the area.

While this doesn't help you, I would highly recommend LoneStar Caliper Co in Canton, TX.

I would second the recommendation for LoneStar Caliper in Texas!

Personally..............I would buy a complete set from Lone Star, and then deal with CSSB if/when you can contact them. Perhaps just have them credit you for the core charge.

Lone Star can supply dated and sleeved calipers in lip seal and o-ring. They re good folks. Owners name is Ken. Talk to him if you pursue getting from Lone Star......and tell him your story. He likely knows more about CSSB issues than most.

I would suggest the o-ring option. They have far less chance of leaking on a car that is stored for long periods of time. Lonestar will provide the correct casting number dated calipers. The core charge is $75. each.

It looks like CSSB is still in business in EBay Stores. You might try "contacting seller" there and ask for your parts returned, then ship them off to Lonestar Brake. Good luck.

I also checked Ebay and CSSB seems to be doing business there at this time.

Due to high cost of shipping, Jack should try and get them shipped directly to Lone Star, rather than "back home". I just sent a 40 lb box from New Orleans to California by UPS and the cost was $130. Fed Ex was even higher.

Thanks to all who have replied on this. The ebay contact route will hopefully be helpful on this. I have O ring style in my 69 with no leaks for 12+ years. They had already been SS sleeved so I just had to put in O ring kits I got from Vette Brakes back then. Dated calipers may be available but my main issue is I want my original to my 66 purchased from the original owner calipers back. Shipping UPS ground was $60 and I'd pay shipping to get them back and call it a day with CSSB, and pay shipping to whomever with tracking from me. Thanks again.

Re: 65-82 Brake Caliper Rebuild Recommendations

I spoke to them a couple of weeks ago, right after the website went "under construction." They had no 73-82 castings, so I had to order one from Lonestar who had ironically provided me the previously-leaking caliper I had tried so hard to reseal a few times.

CSSB moved recently, and their phone number and address changed.
I can get the new information for you later today.

FWIW, I found using Medium Priority Flat Rate box from USPS is a cheaper method. One caliper per box (with additional cardboard packing) is $15. and change.

                        Jim,

Great suggestion. The exact price is $15.05, and you get $50 of insurance per flat rate box for free. And the box is free as well. The USPS is of the best deals out there for shipping heavy items, provided things fit in one of the four sizes/shapes of flat rate boxes

Given that the address and all phone numbers changed, I wonder if there is a new owner...?
Seems unusual in the day of “portable” phone numbers that a business would change them.

Let us know how you make out.

I spoke to Luke before I shipped (just over ten weeks ago) and they had already moved. They may have still had some items to move / setup, but he gave me the new address before I shipped and did not mention any other contact information changing. I shipped to the new address and called a week later and verified receipt of my calipers. The last contact I had I spoke to John on June 19, 2020 at (305) 256-8077

If you have updated contact info I would be grateful.
