c2 ft metal header bar removal?

My 65 is showing the aluminum rivets corroding and pushing up the fiberglass along the header bar. I have researched on line the procedure to repair this condition . The only repair procedures I find is related to c3 models. I am thinking of trying to remove the metal header bar from the bottom with out disturbing the top fiberglass by drilling out the rivets from the bottom to remove the metal bar. The only clearance problem issue I see would be to slide the support bar past the four headlight support brackets for removal . I would then reinstall the bar with bonding adhesive.
My question is has anyone tried this with success or is there another recommended procedure I could try.
