Mounting 69 body to a jig

Going to take the body off the frame soon and would like to mount on a jig at the points where body bolts to the frame so body is properly supported. Does anyone have any words of wisdom about the best way to build or buy a structure in order to mount the body? I would like to put the mounted body on a rotisserie so i can detail the underside before resetting on restored frame.

After reading several posts on taking the body off it seems that using a 4 point lift at the edges of the body stucture is the cleanest way to raise the body without potential damage. Any thoughts there are also appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Mark,

Is your car a convertible or a coupe?

If you don't have a rotisserie already, the Auto Twirler has always impressed me.

My car is a coupe and body has essentially everything removed. Car is in final prime with all body work complete. Doors are on but have no guts in them. Body is about as light as it can be.

        thanks

I've seen the 4-post lift technique, and friends of mine have used it.
I have not yet, but I'll do that next time I have to remove or reinstall a body.

Yes, I tried the engine crane and strap technique, as have my friends. They much preferred the 4-post lift.

Thanks. after talking to a few experienced folks it seems the lift is the way to go. The auto twirler seems to be the best but it ain't cheap for a one time use....

I know. However, if you know anyone who is interested in splitting the cost or wants to buy it after you, I suspect there is a decent amount of value to sell to the next person.

Someone that appears to be in New Jersey has an Auto Twirler for sale on the Corvette Forum. Claims never used. Their asking $800.00.

Re: Mounting 69 body to a jig

Got back in the office today and can now post some pics. These are the two twirlers that I have. The one that the chassis is on I made by starting with the auto twirler body cart and buying the steel I needed to convert the cart to be able to twirl. I then had it powder coated. The vette body cart you can see has the single bar down the body, which as I said tends to bend a little. The more recent version has two bars which is more rigid.
