Remove cigarette lighter from instrument panel

Would like to remove and clean up the internal contacts, as I have one of those portable 12 volt tire air compressors that plug in there, and it looks a bit corroded.

None of the '63-'66 shop or service manuals I have address this operation -- I'd draw the line at having to remove the entire panel.

Wayne, It comes out fairly easy. There is an outer shell that screws into inboard side if the assembly (obviously remove power and wire first). You will need to "squeeze" the light assembly tabs and remove it before turning the outer shell. About the only problem could be if the outer shell is tight, then possibly a pair of pliers with towel around it to prevent damage when turning it. After the outer shell is off, the assembly comes out toward you. Good luck, Don H.

IIRC the early C2 cig lighter housing power wires weren't fused; it would be an excellent time to add one even if your plugged in device has its own fuse..
