'63 Horn Wiring Color Green or Black?

I searched the Forum and the Judging Manual but was unable to find info on correct color for the harness wiring that connects to the 455 and 456 horns. My original harness wires are green but the ones from M&H are black. Mine is a late March car - anyone know if and when there was a change? If they have to be green, any tricks on changing?

    Thanks in advance.

My late May car has green wire in that spot and always has...
My Doc Rebuild wiring diagram also shows a green wire.

if u dont have any green wire, I can cut a piece off an old original headlight harness and send it to you(free). then u can splice it into your incorrectly colored repo harness. mike

Re: '63 Horn Wiring Color Green or Black?

Well I'm going with black (I'm out on a limb here so hope somebody can educate me)
The 63AIM, Sect 12 sheet A8.00 calls for Black and the 63 Shop Manual page 12-28 fig 41a shows 14-B
and I do recall black being correct.

Alan, i believe you may be correct, my 63 has its original harness, horn wires are black. that may have changed in 64??

Ed, definitely for 64 it became DG (dark green?) it's not what I would call dark but it is green! Both the AIM and Shop Manual show it as such. Believe I've been through this discussion before just can not recall when or where. ty

Thanks Mike. I still have my original harness so will have to decide whether to "hide a splice" or leave as is and take the hit if/when it gets judged.

                      THanks,
                      Fred

Re: '63 Horn Wiring Color Green or Black?

Did a little checking on 58 - 62 wiring diagrams, they all show the horn wiring was black. One can assume GM continued to used a black wire through 63 for the horns. Now why the change in 64 up?? New standard??
Also note the JG, pg 134: "Horn wires are normally black in 1963 but may possibly be green in late models. All 1964 horns wires are green."

So if the concern is what to use for judging on your 63 - would go with black!
