    1972 Wiper door delay question

On our 1972 base coupe, the wiper door does not have a delay when you turn the switch off. The wipers do not have time to return to the down position before the door closes. The door opens just fine. Any suggestions? If I use the manual switch then turn off the wipers then everything will close. If I dont, then it is a guessing game.
    Thanks

Under the wiper door, is a vacuum switch. When the wiper come down, it closes the switch, which then ends a signal to the wiper door relay.
Send me a private message with your address, I'll send you a rebuilt one. That usually fixes them...

      Gary G,

I agree w/Gary B. I've replaced that valve on our car twice over 38 years to fix that problem. Get access by first removing the grille panel between the hood and wiper door, then open the wiper door, then activate the wipers, stopping them in the 'up' position, as if you were going to change the blades.

Gary. Do you rebuild these switches?

Yes. I have delrin spools made for the insides and black delrin caps for the outside. I have to buy reproduction switches for the new rubber boots.
If you send me yours, I can rebuild it. I try and buy cores at swap meets, but right now I am out of them. I do have a couple rebuilt ones left, I think...
Sometimes, with age, the housings warp, deform, and don't seal well. Just a warning....
