    65 front spring installation?

I am replacing my original ft. springs with a nos pair of #3851100 springs. When I removed the original spring I noted the location of the close spaced coils on the spring were located at the bottom in the lower control arm. After installing the spring I viewed the assembly manual and the book has a note which says (assemble front springs with close spaced coils toward frame spring tower) Which I read as putting the close coils into the frame pocket. The factory installed my original spring just the opposite. The original spring still had the green part tag on it. My question is the spring direction that critical or should I just leave it as installed? Also the assy. manual notes that the top end coil should be .38 +-.12 from stop. There seems to be no way to verify this spec during installation. I just lined up the lower coil end in the lower control arm coil stop.
    Thanks Dennis.

Theoretically, the spring is both sprung and unsprung weight. I think the intent was to keep the heavier end of the spring as sprung weight.
Practically, it don't matter. Just leave 'em as is.

Bill ,Thanks for the reply. I removed the passenger side spring today and that one was installed as per the assy manual.
My car was assembled a day or two before Christmas 64. I think the driver side was installed by a assembly line worker celebrating the holiday early. I am going to install that spring the same as the original one removed.
      Thanks,Dennis
