ACC carpet part??

just finished the carpet install in my '72. This piece was in the box. Any idea what it is??

I would suspect that it is the grommet that goes around the bright (dimmer) light floor switch.

Tom, The original was made of rubber, The repro is plastic I would reuse the original if it’s still around. Tom I forgot that the dimmer switch is under the carpet and the grommet was not used in 72.

I agree that's what it's intended for, but the dimmer switch for '69-'76 has a flat pedal that sits on top of the actual switch, unlike the earlier round button switch you activate directly. I believe in '77 GM went to a column mounted stalk control. In this case I assume the round grommet is provided for 1968 model years but is unneeded. Maybe the OP could offer it up to someone as a freebie good gesture who may need one for an earlier year.

I am thinking it is for the front Fiber Optic cables feed-thru. I have the same carpet set and about to install myself. I don't believe it is for the dimmer switch as the switch is under the pedal which the carpet lies atop the pedal, thus no need for cut-out. However, just above to the right is where I believe the fiber-optic cables feed thru the firewall to the console indicator lenses. I have attached a pic of the hole location. Forgot to add, the AIM, UPC 12, Sheet A6, Forward Lamp Wiring Harnesses, Horn Relay Mounting, depicts the hole and grommet for the lamp monitors in the vicinity of lamp dimmer pedal.
