'72 seat track carpet cut outs

Just started getting the seats into the car after replacing the carpet. I've read that there are cut outs for the front bolts but not the rears. As I placed the seat into the car to mark the carpet I see that it'd real tight on the inboard seat track and it looks like it would be difficult to cut neatly.

My question before I start cutting, is the inboard front bolt supposed to have the cutout? I've found good pics in the JG and the archives but only of the outboard bolt. A pic of the inboard cutout would be a great help if anyone has one. Thanks!!

Tom, The cut outs are for both inboard and outboard. They are not cut out in the rear. You are correct it is very tight on the inboard side, as I trouble getting the camera in there. The cut out is the same for both in and out. The pictures are from my 72 original carpet. Picture is with flap inplace and lfited.

      Hi Tom,
FWIW, when I did my carpet, I set the seat in the car and located it by using rear bolts only. I then marked the outline of the track fronts with masking tape against the carpet. I then removed the seat, cut the carpet to my taped marks, creating the "flap" length I needed. I don't recall what length I cut but it's judged without deducts numerous times since. I'm happy to measure and report of you want.

BTW, a hot soldering iron works well for creating holes in carpet for seat bolts, rubber plugs, etc. Just find/mark them first with an awl, then burn your hole. Works great!

      Hope this helps...

Thanks, for the confirmation. And Don, we're on exactly the same page. Seat 1 is sitting in the car, rear bolts in and masking tape waiting to be marked.

It's much more difficult to get a photo of the front inner bolt. So, we showed the outer bolt in the JG.
          The principle is the same.
