1960 exhaust installation

Hi,

I have been reading threads about some of the difficulty installing an new exhaust which I'm doing. I have the body off the frame and was wondering should I do it now since it is easy access or would it be better with the body on? I would like to do it now but not have to redo it later?

Dan, my take on this is to do it now with the body off the frame so that you have easier access to adjust the pipes. That's the way I did my '60. I would also think that the weight of the body on the frame might require some re-adjustment after the body drop. My right side pipes are awfully close to the frame and although I haven't bent any pipes yet as I don't have any vibration, I may have to do so in the future.

Thanks Keith I was wondering if there would be major adjustment so I'll take a shot at it and it is one of the last things I have to do the the frame and it is body time.

Dan, I'm in the process of putting new exhaust on my 60. I installed the stainless system that's on there now 35 years ago when the body was off the frame. The new system is going on now but I have a 4 post lift so it's quite easy. Even if you put the system on before the body, the last section of tailpipe has to be installed after the body drop and their final position is determined by the muffler and the next exhaust section so final adjustment will have to be done regardless of which way you go. If you have a lift, I would wait until the body was back on the frame.

P.S. The Corvette Central system fits perfectly.

Hi Jim,
Thanks I have bought a system from paragon and with an initial try I seem to have some clearance issues I just put it in to start my motor for the first time and really did not spend too much time aligning it.
