    1973 Fan Belts

The new 73/74 TMJ states that all fan belts have the GM part # molded as indentations or raised on belt. Looking at Quantas site 1973 belts are printed with white ink, not embossed. Their 1972 belts are embossed which is correct.
So, what is correct for 1973? Is Quanta making the wrong style belts?

    Thanks for the help,
    Chris

    Re: 1973 Fan Belts

...this is just my opinion on this, but I think that a lot of the Quanta belts are just a generic, white lettered belt that has a GM part# on the belt. I've seen alot of Bowtie super low mileage cars with the original belts and they look nothing like the Quanta belts.
I have several Quanta belts I've purchased over the years for my 3 Survivor/Bowtie cars and they are not like what are on the cars. I just went out to the garage to get my original 1974 L-48 automatic belts(car had 27k on it in '89 when purchased). It only has PS & the Alt belt as it's a non-smog, non-A/C car. The original PS belt is all black, and this info is embossed on it. "GM9433637 BP .380 X 43.5 DAYCO 5-5855" The original alternator belt has this info all inside a dark green label "GM 326088 UF 380 X 52.75 MV026 O 033" There is no embossing on this belt, just the green label with this info in it. My '74 was built Sept 11 of '73.

...so is Quanta making the wrong style belts? That's up to you to decide, I know what my answer is.

      The TMJ is correct.

Thanks Paul, that’s invaluable information and I appreciate the reply. Looking at CC’s web site and CA’s site all their belts are stamped with white ink and not embossed starting in 1973 also. It does pose a challenging situation for the restorer. I wonder if anyone has an original 73 with white stamped belts?
