    C! front spring finish

Front springs are apparently Black from what I am finding with grey stripe on the bottom four coils. Are the springs painted black or is out more of like a black oxide type of finish? Also with the gray stripes how wide are they, do they god completely around each coil or were they just painted with brush from one side and also light or dark grey. If someone has a picture would be even better.

    Thanks
    Sheldon

These are NOS RPO 684 springs. They are black paint with stripes appropriate for the HD spring.

Not yet, Mike. I will remember you want them when I do sell.

In response to your question using prints #3748140 & 3756540:
            1. Production springs are identified with a stripe of grey paint on 4 coils at low end of spring. Stripe appears approx. 1" plus or minus, does not go around and is medium grey.
            2. Service springs "Marked plainly with a dot of black paint on second coil from lower end of spring"
            3. When shipped for service if shim #3694719 required wire securely to spring.
            A. Springs not requiring shim ID by a dot of white paint on second coil from top.
            B. If spring requires 1 shim, ID by dot of green paint on second coil from top.
            C. If requires 2 shims, ID by dot of yellow on second coil from top.
Front spring chart 3752424 dated 8-13-57 shows 123 revisions had been made by 12-23-63. Change #118 5-15-63 states:
"Spray or dip with Lucas rustproof #635 compound or equivalent for rust prevention. Mix 7 parts water with one part rustproof compound."
Neither print indicates springs were painted, if they were there probably would have specs showing. The fact service springs were marked with a dot of black paint kind of verifies. You draw your own conclusions.

Yesterday I was at the powder-coaters to pick up some parts. As one of the items was a front cross member (Not Corvette) I inquired about the burn out process and the temperature they use. The employee stated that lightly oiled part are put in the 400 deg oven and just left there till they quit smoking and then blasted and coated. The heavily soiled/oiled parts are put into the 900 degree oven for burn off. He told me he has learned not to put springs in there! LOL.
