    65 Hubcaps Paint

I am trying to refurbish a set of 65 driver hubcaps. Are the slots and outer indented ring painted satin black?

It is more of a gray color, Long Island sells it.

Do you have a picture of yours? I don't recall seeing gray.. Would it be flat, satin, gloss?

The JRM calls it "roughly textured medium gray."

I restored my 66 hubcaps, which I believe is the same paint as 65. Pictured below left to right is an untouched original before restoration, and the next two are my restorations and the LIC paint. The paint is a little darker than the original, but I'm not sure if some of that could be due to fading of the original paint over time.

The originals have a textured finish and you do not get that with just normal spraying the paint. What I did was carefully mask everything except what was to get painted. I rolled the edge of the tape so that I got a soft and not crisp paint edge (like the original). Then I laid the hubcaps flat and shot the paint from a distance, but only misting then let that dry a little then misted again. I think they turned out very good and close to the original texture.

Thanks for the info Don. Since mine is just a driver set, I am going to leave alone with the satin black. It almost looks gray!

VHT Cast Blast Gray spray paint works great also.

While I was doing this yesterday, I found one cap was missing the backing plate as shown in the attached photo. Anyone have an extra laying around.
