    1967 Water pump

    327-350hp

I have an incorrect unit I took off in 1988 and was replace with a FLAPS.
The issue is, with the newer pump, the pulley sits about 5/16-3/8" closer to the block, the pulley grooves for the crankshaft and alternator, are in alignment. I just don't remember the older pump being out of alignment

IF i can find a correct dated '326', is there dimension from the hub for the fan/fan-clutch to the pump mount at the block?
Is the pump shaft repositionable? Does anyone have the ideal dimension?

Both of these water pumps have the by-pass drilled and tapped for 3/4" NPT - not done by me, but I do have a way to make that repair invisible.
The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.

There were two different hub spacings used on pre-1971 Corvette small block waterpumps. They differed by 1/8". The most common was 5-9/16". I've forgotten what the other was but it's either 1/8" greater or 1/8" less than this.

By the way, your pump was probably not converted to 3/4" bypass. SERVICE pumps with the 3/4" bypass were the only ones available for many years and some were also used in PRODUCTION for truck applications. The '326' casting was the most common casting used for SERVICE 55-70 water pumps for many years.

        Re: 1967 Water pump

Thanks for the good info Joe.
I just pulled my old water pump out and it is a "326" casting, but is tapped for the 3/4"NPT. The date code on it shows 0 8 7, but I'm not sure how to read it though, but since the engine was built on 4/17/67 I'm not too concerned about that. The hub spacing is 5-13/16"

Is there a vendor that sells a new bearing/seal for the shaft and a new gasket for the rear cover plate? The current bearing is smooth operating and didn't leak when removed

I'm not aware of any of these pumps with a hub spacing of 5-13/16". That's 1/4" greater than the normal 5-9/16". I checked a little more and I think the other spacing was 5-11/16".

I believe that Dr. Rebuild sells the repair parts for the pump. I think some of the other vendors do, too. Otherwise, you could probably buy them from Bill Mock. I would not re-use the bearing/shaft assembly. These 5/8" shaft assemblies are weak.

Joe, typo on my part, should have typed 5-11/16" hub spacing.
            Thanks again.
