    69 BB Power Steering Mount

    Hi Everyone,

    69 BB L68 P/S & A/C.

Still working through pulleys and belts. I'm having trouble with the Power Steering pump alignment and subsequently the fitment of the Alternator. Today i started to adjust the new belts, but when i got to tensioning the Power Steering belt the pump moved backward towards the block. It also came into contact with the idler pulley (see pics attached). it happened when i tightened the adjusting bracket bolt.

My thoughts are the brackets could be wrong?
The adjusting brace mount needs a spacer of some sort between the pump and bracket (not shown in the AIM)?
Does the pump look correct, I can't see the P/N but it appears to have an angled reservoir?

Also, after test fitting the alternator it fitted hard against the rocker cover with very little adjustment and looks like it could be linked to the P/S fitment. Any help would be very much appreciated as i want to make sure this is final part all fits correctly before installing the radiator an shroud.

    Cheers
    Grahame

    Grahame,

The attachment of the brackets are in wrong order. The Bracket (3878236) with long bolt attaches to head first. Then brace (3946000) with the long curve attaches next and finally the support (3878240) which you have in correct position.

    Good Day

Here are some photos that might be helpful. This is a non-AC installation without idler pulley. However, all the bracketry and installation is the same.

By the way, the unused water pump pulley groove is for the AIR pump which has not been installed as of yet (but will be).

        Thank you Richard and Joe.

Richard, i thought there had to be something wrong with the fitment of brackets as the alternator and other attachments were heavily spaced to compensate before i took it apart. I'll now take the brackets and PS pump off, paint and put back the correct way. I might check in before i finish. Thank you again.

        Cheers

          Joe,
That is a nice looking engine you have, lots of big pieces of aluminum!
