Where does this vin tag go on a 69?

Guys?

I'm getting ready to re-rivet my data tag to the door pillar so I went to get it out of the envelope I had it in and this other tag was also in there (see pic). I believe the body shop guys removed it when they removed the data plate. Can anyone tell me where it goes? I searched the forum and my JG but couldn't find anything. Thanks for your help.

69 vin tag is riveted on left windshield post looking from outside the car down above the dash. There should be two holes there and the interior molding has a coped area that goes around the tag. The rosette rivets are easiest to install with windshield out.

See Mark's reply for location. Tag located under windshield to make removal difficult. Federal law classifies removal of a VIN tag as a felony.

Unfortunately the holes are now filled on the door pillar. Guess the body guys screwed that one up. Is there anywhere where the exact location of this plate is supposed to be? Maybe the AIM? Also, my windshield is in already so nothing I can do about that. Is there anywhere I can get these rosette rivets you mentioned? I don't see them in my vendor catalog. I also don't see the rivets for the data tag. Are they available?

(Not my car or pic) You can see that the pillar trim has a cut-out area for the VIN tag. As I recall on my '72 it's about 1/3 of the way up from the lower corner of the windshield. That should get you in the right area at least.

I don't know of any way to install the VIN tag with the proper rivets with the windshield already installed.

Why was the tag removed? Damaged or rusty windshield frame?

Mike, nos black rosette rivets are on ebay. If the car is checked before the tag is put back where it came from, you may have a can of worms to deal with. I would not drive it with that small part missing.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll get that done asap. I ordered the black rosette rivets. As I recall the data plate was installed with only regular round rivets. I've searched ebay for those but don't see any. Are they just standard rivets?

If by "data plate" you are referring to the trim tag. that was attached with more-or-less ordinary pop rivets.

Pictured below are NOS GM #9127909 rivets [not for sale]. These are the rivets originally used in PRODUCTION for the 1969 trim tag (NOT the VIN tag).

The rivet head is 1/4" OD. The rivet barrel is 1/8" OD. The barrel length is 23/64".
