    65 Ignition shielding

    Car #6912. 365hp motor. What is correct on the top distributor shielding? Is the top and two horizontal pieces held on by bolt or wing nuts? Does the top shield have just the ground clip on the back? (CC shows front ground to air cleaner for 396/427 only).

    Re: 65 Ignition shielding

    I have a 64, L76 - don't know if it is the same for a 65 but..... for a 64 it is a hex bolt on top; side pieces are secured with wing nuts. The top shield has two clips, one for the air cleaner and one for the tach drive. Front clip is secured with 2 small rivets, the back "clips" into place - there should be 2 slots on the back of the large shield, one for FI the other for Carb. Most vendors sell both, front and back ground clips.

      This is a 65 300hp (365 hp is the same). As Ed pointed out, there's also a clip on the back side for the tach cable.

        Thank you. Out of curiosity why is there one on the front? The back grounds to the tach cable. Also don't the wire harnesses provide a ground? Overkill?

          There are lots of configurations of these, John Amgwert did an excellent article of all the details (lots). Mine is on the "Corvette Restorer" CD

          And yes ground on back and front, the front clip also has many configurations.
          Note the 65 used plastic rivets, while 63/64 were mostly metal.
          Here are some of the major differences;
