Years ago NCRS member Charlie Stewart did a 1965 396 Corvette Survey. Is there a current up-to-date copy of a 1965 396 Corvette survey?

Bill, A couple NCRS members have had lists of 396 owners but I don't think any of those lists were ever made public. One member, Bill Williamson (I believe) had a long running list and I supplied a few VINs to be added to his list of local cars for sale but Bill passed away a few years ago and I don't believe anyone has his list. Another NCRS member, Carl Nichol, had his own list but don't think the names or VIN's were posted on the NCRS Tech Forum. I bought a NOM Maroon 65 396 Roadster last November from a guy in Portland and one of the previous owners, Larry N Johnson, started his own list and think it reached up around 70-80 owners and it's still listed on the Corvette Forum but that was about 10 years ago and not too many new entries.
If you do come across a list, please post what you find.

Here's the list of 1965 396 Corvette owners put together by a previous owner of my 396 Roadster. The list was started back in 2010 but Larry Johnson still get's input from folks wishing to add their cars to the list.

I did a quick scan through the C2 Registry for 1965 Corvettes and out of the roughly 1025 entries, about 175 are L78 396s.

Mike - That's definitely true. On one of the first L78's listed on the C2 Registry, they show 'Air Conditioning' as one of the options on that car. And a lot of the entries are skimpy on details, not even mentioning paint or trim.

But there is no verification process connected to that. If a guy wants to say he has a 396, that’s all it takes. Like the C3 guys who say they have an LS6, but it is built outside the range in which GM produced them. (Like the 396, it didn’t come out until later in the year.)

Boy, that's the truth. I've seen several "real" 396 cars that have a pass. side battery and a small block rad., core support and fan shroud. Not to mention missing all the other minor tell-tale items/signs that many don't know about.

It would be nice if the current owner of the list would make it available. If not to everyone, at least to those of us that have contributed to and have cars that are on it.

Jim - I agree, it would be nice if folks with lists of 396 Corvettes would post them. I've reached out to some of the folks from the C2 Registry and from the list on the Corvette Forum and quite a few of the owners are quite willing to talk about their cars and interesting history behind those cars. You'd think that anyone who submitted their cars info to anyone's particular list was already indicating they didn't mind sharing their info.
