question on 69 radiator hoses and hose clamps

    Guys,

I'm putting the hoses and hose clamps on my 69 350/350 4spd non-AC car. What size are the hose clamps supposed to be on the radiator hoses? It's a Sept 69 built car so I've decided to go with the tower C style clamps (JG says they switched to worm gear style clamps after Sept) since I have these and I don't have the original clamps to confirm what style came from the factory. It's a copper radiator if that matters. Also, where in the AIM are the heater hoses installed? I've looked cover to cover and just can't find it. I saw the install for AC cars and for 427 but don't see the stock or SB install anywhere. Thanks for the help.

My original owner 1969 small block was built on September 14, 1969. My original radiator hoses were tower type. Heater hoses at heater core were worm type. I don't recall what the heater hoses at engine were.

Upper hose clamp is 2-1/16"; lower is 2-5/16".

Heater hose installation is shown in the AIM in UPC 1, sheet M4.

Mike, I have one of each of the tower clamps if you need them. Just pay the postage from Georgetown, TX.

I just took a look at the AIM and there is something that is spliced into the heater hose that comes from the water pump. There is no part number listed so presumably that means the hose came that way from the supplier. Can you tell me what that is called and where I can find one? I’ve looked in the catalogues I have and can’t find it. Thanks.

I don't see what you're seeing. In any event, there is nothing spliced into the hose at the water pump. There is a nipple which threads into the water pump. The hose attaches to the nipple and the clamp secures the hose to the nipple. That's all there is.

              Joe,

It's in the hose that comes from the water pump but it its spliced in about half way to the heater core, just past the mount point on the inner wheel well. See the attached pic. Looking at this install, you would need six hose clamps to install your heater hoses and that's how many clamps came in my hose clamp kit from my vendor. What is that thing in the hose?

What you are referring to is the nipple which is attached to the radiator supply tank. This tank is used for all 1969 applications except small block with copper/brass radiator. I believe you have the latter application so there would be no supply tank. Therefore, the lower radiator hose runs directly from the water pump to the heater core.

The AIM pages (except RPO pages) shows the configuration in the standard configuration. In other words for a car that has no options, at all. If options change any configuration that is shown in the RPO section. Some things get "forgotten" as far as diagrammatic presentation is concerned. Features associated with small block with copper/brass radiator are among them. By the way, early 1969 L-46 used the same aluminum radiator as base engine with manual transmission. So, for those a supply tank was used and the heater hose configuration would be the same as that shown in the AIM. I have a friend who is the original owner of his 1969 L-46 and his car was originally built with the aluminum radiator.

I've got a 69 L-46 and would be happy to have the correct clamps. How can I pay...
