Failure of Inside Door Release Mechanism (C2)

I can no longer open either door from the inside of my 1964 convertible
due to wear and age of the door latch mechanism. I have to reach outside the car and
press the outer handle to release the door.

I pulled out both latches and will need get a welder to add a small braze to the lever
that will allow the locking tooth to clear the striker sprag.

My problem is that I need to know what metal these latches are made of, so I can buy the correct brazing rods.
Are they made out of mild steel? Any information is appreciated.

While the locks are out confirm the staked rivets are not loose.
It could allow the pawl to slip between the frame and the pivot (sometimes)
A good peening was all that was required to repair it.
This was different issue as it only affected the outer door handle release.

Mine went loose two day before a chapter meet.
I had to pull the door apart when I should have been attending to other things.
      Take Care.

Mike, I may need to do this. But I'm not sure which lever and where to weld a small bead. Any chance to post an image or drawing? Thanks.

Mike, could I also take advantage of your good nature and get you to weld a pair of latch mechanisms for me?

              Thanks,

Hi Mike. Received my original latch back from you yesterday. Installed it and it works like new. It pays to keep one's original parts. The repro latch I bought would open the door form the in- and outside, but would not unlock with the key. Many thanks Mike!
