Final Question on those 66 Corvette (Base Engine)Side Emblems

Don't want to beat this subject to death but here goes>(Like to get Joe Lucia to comment on it)

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE EMBLEM LEFT THE FACTORY WITH ONLY ONE SPEED NUT ON THE EMBLEM??

    Here is the scenario>
We know from the picture given(on my thread below) that the early(9/65) body drop (THE BODY DID NOT HAVE THE EMBLEMS ATTACHED)
If the heater was in the body at that time or the heater was installed before the emblem attachment then at the
time of attachment the back stud was cut off(for interference with the heater) since there is no way(At least on my A.O.Smith Body) to attach the nut on the stud.

FOR SUCH A SMALL JOB THIS IS GIVING ME A BIG HEADACHE- THANKS IN ADVANCE-Larry

FWIW: For those who think this could(One Speed Nut On Emblem) not possibly happen need I remind you that there
are other incidents that have happened where the assembly workers "overruled the AIM". eg.>Front spoiler on the 68-
69 C3's. The Nut and bolt where reversed for the convenience of the assembly workers. Does it still function the same>yes.
Does it look more ugly and should not have happened>Yes. Would this ever happen at a Mercedes-Benz or Ferrari assembly
plant>probably not. JMHO Still waiting for comments and the possibility on the above. Thanks>Larry

I think it's VERY possible. It might not have happened for every car but I could easily see it happening for some. After all, the single nut would have been effective in keeping the emblem on the fender. An assembly line worker short on time would have known that just like we do.

Hi-I have seen posts about this issue before, and I cannot understand why it is still unsolved! How many thousands of 1966 corvettes have been restored,or just repainted over the last 50 years? You have to remove/replace these emblems to even do a respray! What did all those people do? Seems logical there would be a solution or explanation by now?

Hi- are you saying that the assembly line worker could determine whether the nut was installed or not?- Seems to me there should be lots of data over the last 50 yrs!

Of course. He was certainly not empowered or authorized to delete a nut. But, that does not mean he did not. He had a limited amount of time to get all of his assigned tasks completed before he had to take on the next car. If one of the emblem studs was difficult to get to, particularly on C-60 equipped cars, and he was getting behind he could have made the decision to forget the nut. As I mentioned, he knew that one nut would securely fasten the emblem to the fender. And, he knew that the end-of-line inspector was very unlikely to catch the deletion.

Having stripped and repainted my '66 L-79, there was no way I could get a nut on the rear emblem stud. The end of the stud just touches the heater motor when the emblem is flush with the fender. A nut and dum-dum on the front stud keep the entire emblem tightly in place. The rear stud can not be seen.
