I'd be surprised if the provision for the receiver isn't still there.

I’m reading the original post to say that his car has the dove tails, but someone is telling him that he shouldn’t have them.

OP needs to post a picture to answer post #9 & #11. Were coupe doors interchangeable with convertible doors?

Coupe and convertible doors were different. Among other parts, the outer door skins, glass, door frame, weatherstrip, and glass seals were different. It may or may not be possible to "convert" a coupe door to a convertible door but, at a minimum, the glass, weatherstrip, and glass seals would need to be changed.

I'm very appreciative of everyone's input. I've come to realize that the doors must have been replaced at some point. I plan on installing the aftermarket door alignment pin reinforcements. I'll post photos of the completed installation. Fred

What kind of confounds me is why BOTH doors would need to be replaced. I could understand collision damage on one side of the car but on BOTH sides? Of course, I suppose the necessity for replacement could have happened at different times. Still, it seems strange to me.

Hi Joe, I totally agree ! Seem unlikely that both doors would have been changed. Someone during this conversation commented that convertible door differ from coupe doors (I believe the door I have are original convertible doors). At this point I'm going to install new door alignment pin reinforcement parts & install the factory convertible door guides.....and caulk it up to experience. When completed I will post photos. Final note I have friend that has a 1972 LT1 convertible (very close to my cars production number and is totally unmolested.....bone stock) and his has the door guides.

I think there's more, and probably a lot more, about the history of this car that you're currently unaware of. If it were me, I'd be on the lookout for more "tell-tale" discrepancies.

Joe, Do '73 roadsters have the same pin and receiver design? As a matter of fact did all the remaining roadster years use that setup?

As I stated previously, I truly appreciate everyone's input on my inquiry. While the door issue is strange, I've had considerable help in evaluating / validating the authenticity of this 72 LT1. We have been able to confirm that the vehicle components match and are date correct. Understand I performed a body off restoration (all the chassis / engine & drive train components verified correct and there was no evidence of any frame damage. The original build sheets (2 pages) were recovered from underneath the spare tire cover. I am totally confident when my LT1 (convertible w/ both tops, 350/255hp, 4 speed with factory air) is authentic. Anticipate the restoration completed mid summer 2020.

The base primer color of the doors was a reddish brown. We will heal the rough holes left of the latch screws, as part of the refinishing (after we install the door alignment pin reinforcement pockets.LT! door alignment.jpgLT1 chassis.jpgLT1 new paint 1.jpgResized_20190710_171445.jpg
